I love winter. I love chilly days, curling up in blankets, and watching the snow. Also, I love “soft” clothes (you know, those cozy clothes you want to put on as soon as work is over). So I thought that it might be fun for today’s post if I share my winter essentials. Aka everything I need to make it through the winter (when I’m inside my apartment).
My Winter Essentials
Clothes
Everlane ReCashmere Stroopwafel Crew
Okay, this sweater is expensive, I won’t lie. At $150, it can break a budget. If I hadn’t received it as a gift from Everlane, I don’t know if I would have even given it a second look on the site. But once I put it on, I swear, I didn’t want to take it off. This is the coziest sweater. I just feel more relaxed putting it on. It’s also crazy soft. Even though I didn’t purchase it, I’m pretty sure I already got my $1/wear out of it regardless, because I started wearing it the second I got it, back in October. I keep debating getting a second color, but I love the navy so much, I don’t know what to get!
J.Crew Super Soft Sweater
It’s a good thing they named this sweater “super soft” because that describes it perfectly. Honestly, if you pick up this sweater in a store, you wouldn’t be able to stop petting it, as weird as that sounds. While the Everlane sweater is a loose sweater, this one is a little more fitted. I’ve even paired it with some great business casual outfits.
Barefoot Dreams CozyChic Pants
Okay, these are another pair of pants that can be expensive, but I’ve (yet again) gotten their cost per wear down to less than $1/wear. I put on these pants almost every night. They are so soft and so comfortable. They’re the best curl-up on the couch and nap pants. I dare you to find someone who wouldn’t love these pants.
Old Navy Cozy Socks
Alright, we did some expensive things, so let’s go in the opposite direction. These Old Navy socks may be inexpensive, but they live up to their cozy name. I only really wear them around the house, but I love doing so. They keep my feet so warm and so comfortable.
L.L. Bean Socks
Another excellent sock option! These would also be great if you’re a person who likes to sleep with socks on, since they’ll stay on AND keep your feet warm. Plus, you can also wear them with your L.L. Bean Boots!
Beauty
Vaseline Lip Therapy
My lips get so so so chapped during the winter. For the longest time, I swear that every lip balm I got would just make them more chapped. Vaseline Lip Therapy is finally the first one that doesn’t! They have a few different flavors, but the cocoa butter is my favorite. It smells delicious and feels the most moisturizing going on to my lips. (It’s that extra cocoa butter in this one!)
Beautycounter Supreme Creme
Because life is unfair, not only do I get chapped lips, but I also get really dry skin. But not this year! I mentioned at the end of last summer that I had been using Countertime and been getting great results. Well, one thing that I didn’t even think about was how finally using a great night cream (and day cream) would FINALLY stop my skin getting super dry in the winter! It’s such a relief to not have to worry about that this year and it’s really thanks, in a big part to this supreme cream.
Weleda Skin Food Moisturizer
Not only does my skin get really dry on my face, but my hands get super dry as well. I have a few different creams I like, but my favorite has been Weleda. It’s actually for your face, but it’s done amazing things for my hands. It’s really thick, but not greasy AT ALL! I also love that it’s full size container is 3 oz. so it’s TSA friendly, no matter what.
Other Fun Things
Amazon Blanket
Since I’m a homebody and I love my couch-time, I also love a good blanket. My favorite discovery this year was this faux fur blanket that I found on Amazon for only $29. It’s faux fur on one side and then fleece on the other, so it’s super warm and super soft. Plus, they had it in so many colors, that I was able to get it in a blue that matched my apartment perfectly! My boyfriend and I sometimes fight over this blanket, it’s so wonderful.
Tea
I love a good cup of tea on a cold day. Or just a chilly-ish day. I also love that there’s a good tea for every occasion. Reading, watching tv, doing work, getting ready for bed. So I always try to make a cup of tea for myself when I’m going to be home for a bit, just to make whatever I’m doing just a bit more enjoyable. I don’t always do it, but whenever I do, it makes life just a bit more enjoyable. And when I do it during winter on a cold day, it makes the day 10x more enjoyable.
Herbert’s Hot Chocolate
I discovered this company at the Metrocooking DC Show this past winter and I loved their hot chocolate so much that I picked up a few packets for myself. A few packets that my boyfriend decided to down himself when he was feeling a little under the weather. He luckily saved one or two for me, thank god, because this is my new favorite hot chocolate. It’s so good that you don’t even need to make it with milk to give it a better flavor (like you do with a lot of hot chocolates). It tastes amazing with just water added and they have so many flavors. My favorite is still the dark fudge chocolate though.
Six-Foot iPhone Charging Cord
Is there anything worse when you’re under a warm pile of blankets than having to get up to find the cord to plug your phone in? Or completely rearrange yourself because the cord you have is too short? Well, I’ve decided that this winter, I’m going to completely encourage my laziness by buying a 6-foot iphone cord that basically extends the length of my couch. This cord never leaves the outlet it’s plugged into so I never have to search for the cord and I never have to really move to find it.
Those are my indoor winter essentials! What are yours? Anything I need to add to my list?
