One of the things I love about Everlane (besides all of the things I love about Everlane) is that they always find a way to take a unique approach to Black Friday. During their first few years of existence, they completely shut down the site. But in the last three years, they decided to take a new approach. Instead of shutting down the site, they decided instead to donate all of their profits on Black Friday to a specific cause. They decided to call this, The Everlane Black Friday Fund.

The Everlane Black Friday Fund

One year, they raise enough money to buy helmets for all of their workers in one of their Thailand Factories. Which was a request that the workers actually made when Everlane went to them and asked what the workers would want. In 2018, Everlane decided to partner with the Surfrider Foundation to help remove the plastic from the beaches before it can reach the ocean

This Year’s Black Friday Fund

This year, EverlaneĀ is partnering with Oceana to help put an end to single-use plastic! Everlane will be donating $10 from every order on Black Friday until they hit their donation goal of $300,000.

A little more about Oceana

Oceana is constantly working to protect the world’s oceans. Whether it be from plastic pollution or offshore drilling, Oceana is working to also restore them every day. They also work to end single-use plastic. Most of that work is done through advocating for better policies through engaging with lawmakers and educating voters through on the ground campaigning.

The Problem

The world has a plastic waste problem. US plastic recycling is projected to have dropped to just 4.4% in 2018, while the global plastic production is projected to double by 2030. And then quadruple by 2050. Sadly, recycling may not fully cut it anymore.

How will this $300,000 help?

$300,000 is enough to fund a full year of Oceana’s campaign for putting an end to single-use plastic in three major voting markets.

So head over to Everlane’s site and start shopping! I’ve already picked up my favorites, so I hope you do too.
