I love talking about work wear. Is that weird? Maybe it’s because I spent 5/7th of my week in work wear, so it’s constantly on my mind. It’s a little like it’s a puzzle. You have to find a combination of clothes that’s all from your wardrobe that not only looks good on you, but also fits a set of (sometimes) unspoken criteria. It’s like a mystery every morning that’s (sometimes) fun.

I haven’t talked about work wear in a while (or at least it feels that way), so I thought it might be fun to revisit that topic, especially since we’re in the middle of the winter months!

Sweaters

If you’ve checked out any of my budget posts this year, then you’ve probably noticed that I’m all about the sweaters right now. Fitted, loose, cowl neck, I want them all. If I could just curl myself up in a cozy sweater for the next few months, I would be incredibly content.

This has also been perfect for my work wardrobe. Sweaters are not only conservative enough for work, but I can pair them with everything! My office is more towards the casual end of the business casual spectrum (unless I have a meeting), so as long as my sweater doesn’t look incredibly sloppy, I have a pretty wide range of sweaters to work with.

I also love that I’ve figured out how to properly tuck sweaters with my fitted skirts so there isn’t a bulge anymore. If you’re curious how to do it, check out Brighton’s instagram highlights for her style tips and the sweater trick. I can also share it here if everyone is interested!

Bottoms

Normally winter is my go time for skirts and boots, but this year, I’ve been leaning more into my black jeans from Everlane and these high waist pants from Old Navy. I think I just like starting with what feels like a blank slate. However, I know I can’t wear jeans all of the time (even if they’re black), so that’s when I go back to skirts.

Shoes

I KNOW what you’re thinking looking at these pictures: “are her ankles exposed in these pictures?! I can’t do that, it’s 5 degrees where I am!”

Okay, well let’s pause for a second here. I’m not telling you to have bare ankles outside in cold weather. That’s crazy. However, I know personally that if it’s snowing, I’m going to wear snow-boots to work. After wearing those to work, am I going to want to clomp around in those all day? NOPE. So what’s the perfect solution? Throw a pair of cute pumps or flats into your bag! You’re going to be inside all day, so it’s your chance to break them out. It’s also the only time to pair them with all of your cute sweaters. Just think of it as a sneaky second life for all of your shoes during winter. Then you can throw your Bean Boots back on when you have to go back into the snow.

You’re welcome.

And with that, I’m going to go curl up in my sweater now.
