Shopping Reviews

I’ll be the first to admit, I’ve done a lot of shopping lately. Between Shopbop, J.Crew Factory, and Loft, there have been some really good sales going on, so I’ve been able to get a lot of pieces at really good prices. Here’s some of what I’ve gotten and what I’m actually keeping (so far!).
Note: this is a very photos heavy (and iphone photos no less, GASP) post, so for everyone’s sanity, the reviews are after the jump. If you’re content with your wardrobe or don’t like J.Crew Factory, Loft, or Madewll, feel free to skip over this post (I will only be slightly offended).

Shopping Round Up and Review | Something Good, J.Crew Factory, D'orsay Flat, Madewell, Loft, Lou & Grey
Madewell Kimono Romper in Tidal Wave c/o Shopbop: This was really comfortable, but I wasn’t a fan of how it made my hips looks.  Also, the cut of the shoulders was a little funny.
Verdict: Return

Madewell Seaglow Cover Up Romper c/o Shopbop: When I saw this online it looked like the entire waist was cinched, but it turns out that it was entirely a drawstring waist. It was the same with the neckline. I felt a little like I was swimming in fabric, so it was a no go.
Verdict: Return

Loft Knit Bateau Sweater: A little boxy, but the knit fabric is incredibly comfortable. I’m looking for something that I can easily throw over tanks as an extra layer in the summer, and this leaves enough room for that. Note, it is cropped in the front and is dolman sleeve style. (NOTE: This top is $20 today, 4/23, so someone go get it!)
Verdict: Keep

Loft Laser Cut Skirt: I liked this skirt and it fit well, but I was having problems figuring out what I would wear with it. When I tried on the black version of the skirt in stores I was completely sold on it, but the pink not so much. I would consider it, but not for the $68 I paid for it. I may wait until it goes on sale and then see if I’m still interested in it. (NOTE: This skirt is 60% off today, 4/23, so someone go get it!)
Verdict: Return
Loft Spring Leopard Tasseled Shell: I wanted to try out this top because I was looking to place a leopard print top that had a hole developing in the front. This top fit really well and will be a good replacement for my older top. Note, this is a “bubble” bottomed top, but that disappears when tucked into a skirt/pants. Also, it’s not an overwhelming cinched bottom. (NOTE: This top is 60% off today, 4/23, so go get it!)
Verdict: Keep

Loft Geo-Eyelet Skirt: First, please excuse the wrinkles! I’ve been looking for a white knee length skirt and this was a winner. I was nervous that the geo-eyelet overlay would puff out, but it laid flat. (NOTE: This skirt is 60% off today, 4/23, so go get it!)
Verdict: Keep

Loft Lou & Grey Fluid Ribtrim Tank: I’m looking for more casual tops for the summer and this one fits the bill perfectly. This one was comfortable and loose. It’s a little thin, but I also have every intention of tucking it in so it’s not completely see through.
Verdict: Keep

Lou & Grey Meshline Sweater: I got this in white and mint, but I’m a little disappointed with it. The shoulder hem sat oddly on me. Also, like many Lou & Grey items I’ve tried out, the back is knit different from the front. Since I’m going to keep the other mint sweater and the white reminded me too much of my Old Navy sweater, I didn’t see a reason to keep both.
Verdict: Return.

J.Crew Factory Printed Pull On Boardwalk Shorts: I had been lusting after a similar pair at J.Crew, so I was excited when Factory came out with a similar version. Sadly, this one disappointed me. Maybe it was because of the pull on part, but I felt like I was wearing “granny” shorts and they felt puffy around the hips. Additionally, the material was more structured that I was expecting and I was hoping for softer material.
Verdict: Return.
Shopping Round Up and Review | Something Good, J.Crew Factory Flare Skirt
J.Crew Factory Jacquard Flare Skirt: I fell in lover with my navy flared skirt, so when I saw a pattern version, I wanted to try it out. However, it was much more formal than I expected. As opposed to the white and blue skirt I thought I saw, the skirt actually had golden threads weaved into it. There wasn’t anything wrong with this skirt and it’s actually pretty cute, it just wasn’t what I was looking for.
Verdict: Return

J.Crew Factory Embroidered Rope-strap Camisole: I went back on forth on this one. It was actually what I was expecting, but in the end, I just wasn’t in love with it. Since that’s been a theme with my shopping lately, it was back to the store.
Verdict: Return

J.Crew Factory Maxi: I was really excited for this maxi, but when I tried it on, it was just a bit too short. I never thought I would say that about a maxi, but it was true. If I’m going to wear a maxi, I’d prefer that it skim the tops of my feet. In this case, it hit about an inch above (for reference I tried on a size 0P and I’m 5 feet tall).
Verdict: Return

J.Crew Factory Shorts: Online, these looked a little more like a lace overlay, but in person, it was printed pattern with white, beige, and black. However, I like that they’re more structured and still very comfortable.
Verdict: Keep.

If you follow me on social media, you know I’ve been in love with the Madewell flats. I was excited when they came in the mail and they were an automatic yes. In the spirit of trying new things, I thought I would try out the J.Crew Factory pair to compare. However, as you can see in the picture, the front of the flat was much longer in the J.Crew Factory version and made me feel like I had elf shoes on.
Verdict: Return J.Crew Factory, keep Madewell

  1. This makes me feel a little better about my kind of excessive online orders as of late from these same retailers 🙂 Tried on those same floral shorts and was really bummed that they were that weird pull-on style because I loved the print so much – wish they'd put the print on something else for me. Love the shorts you kept though, and good to know on the flats. Have been tempted to try the JCrew ones but you're right – the length looks a little weird. The Madewell ones are such a great pattern!

  2. Haha, I'm glad someone is in the same boat as me. Those shorts were so disappointing. I wanted the pattern to work out so much, but such a fail.

I wish Madewell still had their version of the cognac ones! I'm so disappointed now because those J.Crew Factory ones didn't work out 🙁
