Packing for Thanksgiving Break

Packing to go home for Thanksgiving has always been always been interesting for me. See, it’s pretty cold in Wisconsin at this point, but I also try to stay inside as much as possible. On top of that, every once in a while I need something nice in case, you know, I decide to go out in public.

It was difficult the first few years but I think I’ve got it down at this point. On the menu, some nice cozy tops, some basic tees for hanging out at the house, two pairs of jeans, and a dress just in case I need it. I went with simple colors from a similar palette so I can mix and match everything. Plus, I threw in a few fun necklaces and a blanket scarf so I can dress up or down any of my outfits.

For shoes, I stuck with boots (since there will hopefully be snow back home) and a pair of flats for inside my house.

Feel free to look at what I’m bringing and use it to help build your suitcase! Plus, click on any of the pictures to get more information about the piece or to buy it for yourself.

Do you have a formula for packing to visit home? What pieces do you have to bring?

  1. Ok, I typed a comment and it disappeared…
Anyway, packing distresses me every. single. time. Scott and I are going home to Buffalo for 16 DAYS at Christmas – how to pack for that??
    Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

I have to travel pretty light since I go by bus and they only allow one bag. I usually take two pairs of jeans, a few sweaters, t-shirts and camis, a pair of boots and flats. I've got it down to a science at this point.

  3. Depends how much you like remixing, but I would say take the basic outline from above (3 sweaters + 3 tops + 2 pants + 3 shoes + dress/cardigan + jewelry), and add an additional bottom (maybe a skirt) and an additional cardigan or blazer. Just make sure that you either stick with colors that go together or a bunch of neutral colored pieces that will always go together.
Let me know if you need any more help!

  4. That's awesome. Isn't it nice when packing becomes easy?
    Have a great Thanksgiving!
