I definitely feel like I cut back in the number of items I purchased this month, and was definitely better about returning things. I also filled some holes that I’ve been trying to fill, namely the navy work pants and white shorts. I’ve been on the hunt for both of these and thanks to J.Crew Factory (and a recommendation to check out J.Crew from the awesome Monica), I was FINALLY able to find the perfect (and perfectly priced!) version of both. I also decided to give the romper trend a whirl and I was pretty pleased with the one I found at Forever21.
Since we’re at the half way point of this year long budget, it’s time to share some thoughts about a year long budget so far. It’s been a fairly odd experience , to be honest. Keeping track of what I’m purchasing has been really helpful but also a little bit shocking. I don’t know if I’m purchasing more items than I regularly do, or if I just hadn’t noticed how much I was actually buying, but I feel like it’s a little out of control. While I’m a big believer putting items in carts and then waiting for the price to go down, I’ve noticed that I’m lately more likely to actually hit the “buy” button when I’m having a bad day or I’m incredibly bored. Now that I’ve realized that, I’m trying to come up with better solutions to making a bad day better or solving being bored.

On the plus side, keeping track of this has made me much better at evaluating my purchases. Now when I’m trying things on, I’ve started to make the quick decisions of (1)do I love it? & (2) do I actually have things to wear it with? If the answer to either is “no”, then back to the racks/store it goes! Thanks to this, I’ve returned things right away, saved a lot of money, and not had items sitting around in my closet waiting to be worn. It’s also been a good method for cleaning out my closet and picking which clothes to sell (but more on that later)!

This all being said, I’m going to try to cut back on my spending on clothes in the upcoming months. Since I’m (finally) going to be moving, I have some big purchases coming up. I’ve been saving money for these purchases, but there’s really no reason to be spending so much money at one time.

So what did you buy in June?

  1. Yay! Glad you found white shorts… so hard to find the perfect pair, but I wear mine all the time now that I have them! I find myself buying a couple of off-season things this time of year, like a really soft, light J.Crew sweater I've been eyeing that came out to under $15 this weekend!
