Products with a Cause is back! I don’t know why I take a break from this series, but I’m always happy when I bring it back. Especially now since I can focus on black owned brands and/or brands that support black causes.
Haiti Design Co
Today I wanted to share with you: Haiti Design Co. I think that what I love most about this company is that they started out as a workshop in 2014 with the goal of bringing about sustainable development through design, training, and job creation. They want to bring the designer, maker, and consumer together around a commonality and help to lighten each others’s load. They go further into their mission and model here which I really suggest reading. I don’t know what’s more beautiful, what they’re doing or how it’s written (seriously, it’s written so well).
Giving Back
As a company they focus on three main causes: HDC FAM, Wellness Program, and their Artist Incubator Program.
HDC FAM
Haiti Design Co believes strongly in providing for their artisan families. HDC Fam helps to fill that gap and provide help whenever necessary.
Wellness Program
The Wellness Program represents their ongoing focus on sustainability. Through this program, they provide things like nutritious lunches, educational seminars, and subsidized health insurance to their artisans.
Artist Incubator Program
The Artist Incubator Program is what the company is all about! Through this program, they can help Haitian artisans become independent entrepreneurs.
