Last week we talked about going to a casual Friendsgiving. The kind where you can take your shoes off, put your feet up, and relax. This week, we’re going the other direction. We’re talking about the Friendsgiving where we act like real adults. We use real silverware, nicer plates, and wear heels. The dressy Friendsgiving.

Dressy Friendsgiving

Okay, I think I may have made them sound a little more uptight than they actually are for a second there. Let’s be real, the wine can be flowing just as much at these, it’s just not jeans time.

A Dress Friendsgiving Outfit Breakdown

So let’s break this outfit down. Off the bat, I would typically pick either a skirt or a dress, because in my mind, those are just easier. If you aren’t into either of those options, I’m guessing you have a nice pair of pants. Grab those. For the rest of your outfit, let’s figure it out based on the following factors:

Location

Are you eating at a friends house? A restaurant? If it’s at a restaurant, then it’s pretty easy to figure out the dress code, just go with the general vibe of that restaurant. This is when geo-tagging on Instagram comes in handy.

If you’re going to be at a friend’s house, ask them! If they wanted people to come dressed up, ask them how dressy they want their guests to be! There’s really no shame in that.

Mobility

Odds are that for this Friendsgiving you’re going to be standing and holding a drinking and then sitting and eating. So mobility isn’t really a factor. Isn’t that nice to know?

Shoes

Unlike a casual Thanksgiving, there’s less to think about again! Maybe just the venue, but if you know the general dress code, you should be fine. Since it’s colder, I’ll typically stick with ankle boots or regular boots,

My Dressy Friendsgiving Outfit

How did I pick my dressy Friendsgiving outfit? I decided to go full on fall for this one. A plaid fit and flare dress with some ankle boots. Now, if I needed this outfit to be even dressier, I could easily put on black tights and wear black heels or a pointed black ankle boot with this dress. However, I decided that any “dressy” Thanksgiving I would go to would probably not be THAT dressy so cognac would be that nice in between for me.
