The Perfect Bags for Every Occasion

When Anne suggested sharing your favorite tote bag, I knew this was a link up that I was all in for. But I also realized that I wanted to share my favorite bags (or rather, my most used bags). These are the bags that I frequently reach for when I need to go somewhere. They’re also the bags that I pray won’t fall apart because I never want to have to replace them.

The Madewell Transport Tote

If you want a tote that will fit every, this is the perfect bag. The tote only has one pocket near the top, so it’s essentially a wide open bag. This has been perfect for days when I need to fit my laptop plus 50 other things into my bag. It’s also when I make sure that everything is in smaller bags so nothing disappears to the bottom. I also love this bag because not only can I stuff it with everything, but it’s pretty lightweight on it’s own. This way I don’t have to worry about the weight of the bag on it’s own dragging me down. It’s a little pricey, but I was able to snag it during a Shopbop sale when it was marked down. It’s definitely worth the price though, trust me.

The Coach Classic City Bag

I actually feel terrible about sharing this bag, because for some crazy reason, Coach discontinued their classics line. I have no idea why they thought it was a good idea, but that means that you can only hunt this bag down on Ebay now. It’s worth it though. I take this bag everywhere and it goes with everything. Since it’s real leather, I know it’s going to last me a long time. If you can find one on Ebay (they always seem to be popping up), I would definitely bid on it!

Favorite Bags | Something Good, everlane tote, Everlane Twill Zip Tote

The Everlane Twill Zip Tote

Impulse buys don’t always work out, but this one did. I carry this bag to work almost every day (unless I need to carry my backpack). It’s the perfect size for my workout clothes, lunch, Kindle, and whatever other random things I need throughout the day. I love that it has some structure to it (so it doesn’t just lose all shape immediately) and has held up no matter what I put it through (which is a lot). This tote was a special edition, but they still have basically the same tote, without the leather stripe.

The Everlane Modern Zip Backpack

Who would have thought that at age 27, a backpack would make the list of my favorite bags? I definitely wouldn’t have been able to. I don’t know what I was doing without a backpack before though. It’s made it so much easier for the days when I have to carry a lot of things (which happens more than it should). Plus, it’s now become the main bag I bring when traveling. This bag has already been to Alaska, New York, South Carolina, and so many more trips to come. It has an added (and padded pocket) for your laptop on the inside which is a great little bonus.

Old Navy Crossbody

Another impulse buy for the win! I don’t know exactly why I picked up this bag, but it’s become my go-to for days when my crossbody is just a little too small, but I still refuse to carry a tote. I swear, the amount of stuff I can fit into this is unbelievable. While this bag is no longer available, Madewell sells two crossbodies that are almost exactly the same. While those are going to be more expensive, they’re also going to be made well real leather and will probably last a little longer. I have a feeling I’ll probably buy that once this bag gives out (it’s still going strong for now though!).

Favorite Bags | Something Good, vera bradley, crossbody, twice as nice

Vera Bradley Twice as Nice

A perfectly little black bag is almost as important as a perfect little black dress (in my opinion). This one is great for when my outfit won’t go with a cognac bag or I want something a little nicer. I don’t know why Vera Bradley waited so long to start doing leather bags, but if they’re all this good, it was well worth the wait. This crossbody actually has two sections to it and a magnetic closure, which is actually a lot more convenient when you need to get something out of your bag quickly. Plus, if you pick up this bag, you’ll notice a fun surprise in the lining of the bag.

So those are my favorite bags! One thing you may have noticed is that all of these bags are neutral colors. While I have a handful of bags that add a fun pop of color, the bags that I really get the most use out of are the ones that are more versatile. They add to my outfit, but they also go with every outfit.

Now I’m curious, what is your favorite bag? Is it one that is more colorful or is it a more neutral color?

  1. Loved your post! And you have great style! I tend to get stuck on a bag/purse for a while and so I’m not accustomed to switching out with my wardrobe everyday!

    • Thank you Laura! I actually don’t really switch out my bags that often. During the week, I’ll generally stick with my Everlane totes and backpacks. My bags on the weekend will just be based around what I’m doing that day.

  2. Such a fun roundup! And I enjoy this support in my justification for having so many different bags…but they really do all have their necessary times and places, don’t they?! I have the JCrew version of the transport tote and love it, but a good black crossbody is usually my go to. Would love to add the perfect cognac one to the collection – like yours! – but instead I just went for burgundy, which really is kind of a neutral in fall/winter for me. And sometimes those Old Navy impulse buys are so darn worth it. That one looks like a dead ringer for the Madewell version! I have an ON bucket bag that was similar in high-quality knockoff-ness.

    • They really do! I love your idea of a cranberry bag though. I have one that’s more of a crossbody, but I think it really will be a good winter/fall bag.

  3. What a great collection you showcased! I try not to keep too many bags, personally, but I love how you show each of them and how they work with your outfits. 🙂

    • I’m with you actually. I’m not as big of a bags person anymore, but I think it’s because I’ve found my perfect set of bags!

  4. Oh my gosh, bags are my kryptonite lol! You’ve got some great ones here, chic and stylish but they look so functional and practical too!!
