Blogger Style Two Ways: Brown Ballet Flats

No matter how my style has evolved over the last few years, one thing has not changed: I’ve always loved a good ballet flat. Black, pink, red, I don’t care what color it is, I love them all. But one flat I’ve been on the hunt for the longest is a brown ballet flat. It sounds really odd, but brown ballet flats is oddly versatile, especially in the fall. When I saw these on sale at J.Crew, I snatched them up immediately. Then, of course, I suggested to Anne that we style our brown (/cognac) flats two ways.

How I Styled My Brown Ballet Flats

White or Blue on Bottom

You can always go crazy with what pants or skirts you want to wear, but I think that blue jeans or white jeans will really allow your shoes to pop. With blue jeans, you can go with any variation, but I would aim for a darker shade if you want to look a little more put together.

If you really want to do black, you could, but I would find a way to either match your shoes with your top or accessories then. That way your shoes appear to be a purposeful choice and not like you couldn’t tell the difference between your brown and black shoes in the morning.

Striped Sweater

Now normally I wouldn’t do brown with brown. I would have done a brown with tan or something like that. But I had this sweater and it was just too perfect to pass on. It’s also just so perfect for this weather and the colors were so good.

Accessories

Accessories for this outfit were a little difficult so I took the lazy way out and just went with (faux) pearl earrings and called it a day. If I needed a purse for this day, I would actually choose a black purse or a muted color. The cognac purse that I normally use for every outfit is just too much of a different brown from the sweater and the shoes. So I think it would just be better to stay away from that completely.
