Your Weekend DIY

I saw this how-to on Merrick’s babble page and I knew I had to try it. This DIY was pretty easy and fun to do while catching up on my TV shows (aka time for a Reign marathon, anyone else love that show too??).
If my instructions leave you confused, then 1. I’m sorry, I’m trying! 2. Go check out the tutorial on Merrick’s page and it’ll hopefully be easier to understand.
Note: for the boots, I found an inexpensive pair from Old Navy. A lot of ankle boots are on sale right now, so aim for an inexpensive pair that you won’t mind if you mess up.
Step 1: Tape around the leather outside of the elastic. I put a few extra piece on just in case I painted a little too much outside the lines.

2. Once you’ve taped off the boots, use your sponge brush to paint inside the elastic. I rotated between each of the four pieces of elastic while painting, so each piece was given some time to dry before the next layer.
I ended up doing about 4 layers of paint to ensure that I completely covered the fabric and got paint into all of the tiny crevices in the elastic. Also, if you’ll note, I actually didn’t have pink paint, so I mixed colors until I got the shade that I wanted.
3. Once you’ve painted multiple layers of paint, put your shoes in a ventilated area to let them dry.  I gave them about 2 days to dry, but they would probably be fine after 24 hours.

4. Remove the tape and there you have it! Brand new boots with a pop of color!
