Work Appropriate for Who? Featuring Krista, the Social Media Coordinator

Hey all! Today’s Work Appropriate for Who? Features Krista of the blog, Covering the Bases. I’ve been following Krista’s blog for a while (since it was originally Southern Shopaholic!) and it’s been fun to see how her style has evolved over the year. I’m also excited to have her participate today because she has a pretty awesome job with a very flexible dress code. This is a great read for girls who work in a casual setting!

What dress code was given to you when you began the job?

Casual.

What do you generally wear to work?

Dresses or skirts and flats (I have more of these then jeans).

Where do you like to shop for work attire?

J. Crew, Banana and Ralph Lauren.

How have you developed your professional style?

Just overtime. I have the ability to wear jeans and converse to work or a dress and heels. So it’s more of what I’m comfortable in and what I feel like wearing each day.

In your specific office, what is one thing you would tell a woman to definitely NOT wear?

Spaghetti straps. I don’t think those are ever acceptable.

What is the best “dress code” advice you have ever received?
Wear something you’d wear to church. It’s always better to be more conservative.
What advice would you give to women starting in her career about dressing for her job?

Ask questions before you start working. Ask your interviewer or ask people in the office what they wear. Or just take a look around when you go into interview. Check out what people are wearing and mimic that.
