The weather right now is so weird. One day I’m wearing sandals and sweating and the next day it’s pouring and I have all of the layers on. But after living in cities like Pittsburgh and D.C. where the weather is so unpredictable for so many years, I feel like I’ve gotten my wardrobe for this weather down.

Lighter Layers

My first tip is that this is the the time to break out the lighter layers. When you’re transitioning your wardrobe from winter to spring, you want to keep a few of your key winter pieces like cardigans or a sweater or two. But the majority of the heavier pieces can go. You don’t need them in your wardrobe. Since the temperature can shift within minutes throughout the day, it’s better to layer your outfit. That way so you can add and remove pieces as the temperature changes.

Stock up your shoes

The next tip I have is to stock up your wardrobe with flats, tennis shoes, and a pair of rainboots. Why? I feel like the second weather gets nice, people run outside and then want to be outside as much as possible. Flats and tennis shoes are great for that because they can easily be adapted for warm or chilly wardrobes. Also, if you want to walk around a lot, you need those tennis shoes! What are the rainboots for? Those random rainstorms that love to happen during the season.

All Spring Colors

Finally, utilize spring colors! Any outfit will look more “spring like” if you use colors. For instance, in my main outfit in this post, I’m wearing a sweatshirt, which isn’t normally something you think as “spring like.” But It’s in such a green, springy-like color, you can’t help wanting to wear it for the season. Pairing it with a beige bag, helps to emphasize the pale spring colors.

A Spring Colored Sweatshirt

I love this look for spring. The sweatshirt is perfect for when it’s chilly and it’s a great color! I also love these loafers by the way. They’re unlined, so they conform to your feet immediately. They’re comfortable right away and absolutely perfect.

The White Jeans

One thing that I forgot to mention during this post, white jeans are the best way to make your outfit more spring like! Even if it’s a colder day, you can pair white jeans with a sweater to still feel a little more like spring. If it’s a hotter day, you could also wear a pair of wide leg white pants to keep you a little more cool.

Light Layers

light layering for spring

Remember when I talked about only keeping a few items from winter when building spring wardrobes? This sweater is a perfect carryover. It’s a nice color for the season, but it’s also lightweight, so it’s perfect for layering.
