Spring 2019 Book Releases

Guys, I’m starting to hit that time of year again where my to-read list comes up mid-thigh. And that’s only books that have already been released. I’m already building a pretty long list of Spring 2019 book releases that I’m counting down the days to.

I figured that you all would want to know about them here, so I thought it would be fun to share my list. I’m going to go into detail about a few of the books and then I’ll list a few of the books that I’ve only heard a little about. The craziest part? This list only goes through MARCH! Okay, actually, I have one book in May, but it’s the only May release that I know about AND I’m super excited for. I can only imagine how this list is going to grow in the next few months.

Books I’m Most Looking Forward To

ON THE COME UP BY ANGIE THOMAS

On the Come Up actually came out on the 5th and I sat down this past Saturday and read it in one sitting. It was that good. I became an instant fan of Angie Thomas after I read her novel The Hate U Give (also in one sitting) and then became a fan all over again after hearing her speak. She’s truly an amazing author and this novel completely lives up to the first. Taking place in a neighborhood adjacent to Garden Heights, it focuses on Bri, a 16 year old girl who dreams of becoming a rapper and has the skills to do it too.

Release Date: February 5th

DAISY JONES AND THE SIX BY TAYLOR JENKINS REID

For the longest time, I just liked Taylor Jenkins Reid. Her novels were good, but they never really stuck out to me. Until she came out with the Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. Then she completely blew me away. Now I’m counting the days until her next novel and I can’t wait to see what she does next.

Release Date: March 5th

FOUR DEAD QUEENS BY ASTRID SCHOLTE

This book has been getting a lot of hype in the book world and I have to admit, I’m really intrigued. I’ve heard it described as a murder mystery, action packed romance, dark, fantasy, and intrigue-heavy. How could I stay no to that?

The Burning Island by Hester Young

The Burning Island will be the third novel in a series I love by Young. The first two books, The Gates of Evangeline and The Shimmering Road focus on Charlie, a young woman who is unintentionally force into a life of being an unofficial dectective. It sounds a little weird, but when you read the first book, you’ll get it. Anyways, I really enjoyed the first two books and I’m really excited for the third.

THE AGE OF LIGHT: A NOVEL BY WHITNEY SCHARER

When I was in college, I took a course called “France During World War 2.” If you ever want to be able to read anything about World War 2 or France, I would highly suggest not taking that course. It really soured my taste for anything related to those two subjects. I think my trip to Paris might have cured my inability to handle anything French, because now I want everything Paris. So when this book about a woman who flees her bad divorce and ends up entangled with an artist in Paris, how could I say no?

I OWE YOU ONE: A NOVEL BY SOPHIE KINSELLA

How can you not get excited for a new Kinsella novel?! They’re just too much fun.

THE SILENT PATIENT BY ALEX MICHAELIDES

I saw this novel pop up on Book of the Month and while I didn’t get it, I was so creeped out that I knew I was going to need to read it.. A famous painter shoots her husband to death one evening, for seemingly no reason. She then goes silent, refusing to tell anyone about that night. She’s hidden away in a forensic unit and one psychotherapist takes it upon himself to learn what happened to her.

A QUESTION OF HOLMES BY BRITTANY CAVALLARO

This YA Holmes and Watson is the series of ups and downs. The second book was so convoluted, yet so meh that I wasn’t sure if I was willing to pick up the third. I decided to read the third one anyways and I actually really enjoyed it. I also figured the series ended there. Well color me wrong. I guess I’ll be reading the fourth book. This sounds really unenthusiastic on my part, but I think that’s because I don’t want to set my expectations too high for it.

There’s Something about Sweetie by Sandhya Menon

If you don’t know who Sandhya Menon is by now, feel free to go back and read my blog post praising her for When Dimple Met Rishi (and I don’t mean that sarcastically, I actually want you to go read it). She’s only put out two books so far and she’s already one of my favorite YA authors. There’s Something About Sweetie is the follow up to When Dimple Met Rishi, but it focuses on Rishi’s younger brother and the new potential girl in his life, Sweetie. Menon creates amazing teenage girls and I can’t wait to meet Sweetie!

AMERICAN PRINCESS: A NOVEL OF FIRST DAUGHTER ALICE ROOSEVELT BY STEPHANIE MARIE THORNTON

One thing that I’ve noticed I’ve been really into lately? Historical fiction based in America? Particularly either America right around the founding or in the 1900s. Especially if it’s been around “American Royalty.” I don’t know what it is, but it’s just so fascinating to me. So a novel about the rebellious Alice Roosevelt? Done.
