I realized the other day that I read the first two books in the Spice Isle Bakery Mysteries series, but I never reviewed them here! But they’re fun mysteries so I thought it was about time to share them here.

Spice Isle Bakery Mysteries

TWO SENTENCE SUMMARY

Lyndsay has finally achieved her dream of opening up a bakery with her family in the Little Caribbean neighborhood of Brooklyn. With every new business comes struggles, but she didn’t expect murder to be one of them.

The first book, Against the Currant, takes place when the bakery first opens and the owner of another local bakery is murdered. In Hard Dough Homicide, the bakery is back to normal, but the murder of the local high school’s principal makes Lyndsay start investigating again.

WHAT I LIKED MOST AND WHAT FRUSTRATED ME

What I liked the most about these mysteries is how much the community is really a part of the novel. They’ll chime in throughout the book and they help Lyndsay with her investigations.

What I disliked about the novels is that sometimes it feels like the books could be a chapter or two shorter. By this I mean that the mystery solving could be a little tighter. But I love all of the extra side scenes that involve the community and food descriptions. So keep those in!

RECOMMENDED FOR

Anyone who loves cozy mysteries, especially ones that take place in bakeries.

STAR RATING

I would give each book a solid 3.75 out of 5 stars!

BACKLIST BUMP

I have to share the Hannah Swensen mysteries, another mystery series that takes place in a bakery. I will admit that the language and things said are a little hard to get through in the first few books (outdated ideas, I mean), but it gets better as the books go on. Also, there are more than 25 mysteries in the series, so you can really spend some time with them.

The first two books in the Spice Isle Bakery Mysteries by Olivia Matthews are available now!
