Shopping Reviews, Vol. 67. 2018 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Reviews

Phew! I can’t believe that it’s time for the first round of the 2018 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Reviews posts! I really wasn’t sure going into this year if there would actually be anything good or if it would be a meh year. But I think I actually found some good things that you all will enjoy. Before we get to all of the reviews, I figured I’ll give you a few heads ups. First, I’m planning on doing three review posts total. Hopefully all of them will be up within the next week or so. Second, if anything you want from any of my posts is sold out completely, sold out in your size, or sold out in the color you want, don’t panic. Just wait and keep checking the site (and put a Shoptagr tag on it). A bunch of things are restocked when the sale is opened up to the public on Friday. Also, plenty of things will also come back once people start returning things.

Please enjoy my post today covering tops and cardigans! My next post will cover dresses and jackets. After that will be shoes, accessories, and anything else you may need (aka homegoods and bras)!

Madewell Verse Tie Back Top, Bleached Linen & Deep Navy, Size X-Small

Color me obsessed. It’s also not good when I’m saying that right off the bat. This crop top from Madewell is so cute and the fit is surprisingly good. I loved the open back detail and the shirt was surprisingly breathable. I already tested it on a particularly hot day it DC and while it held up pretty well, I would say it’s my lightest shirt. That being said, it looks really good with high waisted jeans and shorts. If the red comes back in my size, I’m debating picking that up too.

Verdict: Keeping in both colors.

Madewell Courier Stripe Button Back Shirt, Midnight Seas, Size XX-Small

Sometimes I try on things and I can’t figure out if they’re meant to be a joke or not. Or if I’m actually that small? I don’t know. What I do know is that this shirt is not petite friendly. It’s big, boxy, and doesn’t fit well. The only upside is that the fabric is pretty light and the button detail on the back is cute. But that’s not enough to make a top worth it.

Verdict: Return

dc woman blogger wearing treasure & bond print pleated top

Treasure & Bond Print Pleated Top, Navy Night Spaced Ditsy Floral, Size XX-Small

This top might have been my most disappointing top of the sale. I love it so much. The print is adorable and I love the buttons up the front. I think it would be perfect for work and I could easily see pairing it with jeans on the weekend. The problem? The arm holes are HUGE. Which means that the shirt is a little too wide, which you can see in the pictures. I can’t really decide if that makes the shirt worth tailoring. Let me know in the comments if you think it’s worth keeping and just covering up with a cardigan though. Especially since I would just do that at work anyways.

Verdict: Undecided.

dc woman blogger wearing gibson twist front top

Gibson Twist Front Top Regular & Petite, Ivory, Size X-Small

This was just a good concept gone terribly wrong. The fit of the shirt was okay. The material was nice. It was actually the semi stretchy material that’s super comfortable, but also manages to be form fitting at the same time. But oh man, the twist was executed so poorly. As you can see, there’s a big gaping hole where one of the loops goes through. I tried to adjust it, but it just wouldn’t be covered. I wonder if this top may have worked better in an XSP, but I don’t think it’s worth it to go back and try.

Verdict: Return.

dc woman blogger wearing gibson ribbed cozy fleece twist-back top

Gibson Ribbed Coy Fleece Twist Back Top, Pink Smoke, Size XX-Small P Petite

I have a soft spot for anything with a fun back, so this top went in my cart immediately. I thought it was going to be a heavier top, more of a sweater material. However, it turned out to be a much lighter knit rib. I’m okay with this though, it’ll be good for transitioning months and I can put a bodysuit underneath it when it gets colder. I also liked that for the twist back, they also added an extra stitch above the twist. That’ll help the sweater keep it’s shape and stop it from falling off of your shoulder every five minutes.

Verdict: Keep

dc woman blogger wearing bp twist front sweater

BP Twist Front Sweater, Ivory, Size XX-Small

A multipurpose sweater! Yes, I decided to ignore the tag and wear the knot in both the front and the back (because why not). I like the sweater, but I’m not sure if I’m in love with it. The knit is super soft and I’m always a fan of the color. It’s a little short though and I’m not sure if I can see myself really reaching for it. I may try it on a few more times though before I make a final call.

Verdict: Undecided

dc woman blogger wearing bp textured stitch v-neck pullover

BP. Textured Stitch V-Neck Pullover, Grey Dark Charcoal Heather, Size XX-Small

Holy soft moly. I think I’m just attracted to all of the soft knits this year and managed to only order those. If you couldn’t guess, this is another one of those. It has a bit of a hi-lo cut to the hem, but the difference isn’t too bad. I also ordered the sweater in tan, so I may wait to see which I like more. Also, just a heads up with BP: they’ve been running super big lately, so you may have to size down when ordering from there. I don’t normally wear XXS, but anything else from them is typically oversized.

Verdict: Undecided\

dc woman blogger wearing bobeau faux wrap knit top

Bobeau Faux Wrap Knit Top, Burgundy, Size X-Small

I don’t think I really wanted to admit it to myself when I tried this sweater on, but something just felt off when I tried it on. Looking back later, I think I know what it was. This sweater just felt kind of cheap to me. I don’t know if the rib fabric was too thin, if I didn’t like the cut, or if it felt too floppy, but it just felt off. (Okay, all three of those things I just said were in fact true, just as an fyi.)

Verdict: Return

dc woman blogger wearing caslon cowl neck sweatshirt

Caslon Cowl Neck Sweatshirt, Ivory- Black Lukah Stripe, Size XX-Small P Petite

As soon as I put this sweatshirt on, I said to myself, okay, I’m done trying clothes on, this wins. It 100% does though. It’s soft inside and out, it’s perfectly fitted, and who doesn’t love a good cowl neck. Plus as an added bonus: stripes. Or if you don’t like stripes, they had grey. I sadly had to take this off to try on more clothes, but I’ll happily live in this top for multiple months with no complaints.

Verdict: Keep. Duh.

dc woman blogger wearing leith ribbed shawl cocoon sweater

Leith Ribbed Shawl Cocoon Sweater, Grey Medium Charcoal Heather, Size XX-Small

How many times can I tell you that the fit was finally perfect? Well unlike last year, I knew this year to size down and the fit was finally perfect! I wasn’t sure how much I liked this sweater when I tried it on, but looking back at it, I’m liking it more and more now. I’m not normally one for ribbing, but it works well here. The sweater is also just nice enough that you can pull off having it at the office for chillier days.

Verdict: Undecided

dc woman blogger wearing bp stitch curve hem cardigan

BP Stitch Curve Hem Cardigan, Grey Cloudy Heather, Size XX-Small

If you’ve tried on one cardigan, you’ve tried them all, right? Well apparently no, because I sometimes feel like all I do is try on cardigans. I’m honestly starting to run out of things to say other than this one was softer, but had less of the cowl neck. At this point it might come down to deciding between the two grays.

Verdict: Undecided

dc woman blogger wearing bp stitch curve hem cardigan

BP. Stitch Curve Hem Cardigan, Beige Oatmeal Medium Heather, Size XX-Small

Ditto above, except I’m obsessed with this color.

Verdict: Keep

dc woman blogger wearing bp oversized waffle stitch cardigan

BP. Oversized Waffle Stitch Cardigan, Beige Birch, Size XX-Small

Guys, this sweater wasn’t supposed to be a serious contender. Except that as soon as I touched it, I didn’t want to put it down. I just wanted to wrap myself in it and take a nap for the next five years. Yes, it’s that soft. I also kind of love the oversized look of it. Would it be too ridiculous to keep it as a house sweater? Let me know.

Verdict: Undecided.

That’s all for now! Let me know if you’ve picked up anything yet or what you’re looking forward to getting on Friday!
