Shopping Reviews, Vol. 29: The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

Okay guys, it’s time for the 2nd part (of many parts) of my Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Reviews! Plus this one is even more exciting since the sale is finally open to everyone!
As you may know, this sale is great for stocking up on sweaters, jackets, and boots, so that was what I really focused on when I was looking at the sale. I did however, throw a few extra things into my (many) orders to try on. In today’s post, I’m focusing on a few dresses, some leggings, and jackets! Also, yes DC is going through a heatwave right now and I’m wearing a cable knit sweater in this post. I figured that since I would be wearing most of these jackets with a sweater, I needed to have one on. Logic people! I also have AC in my apartment, so no I wasn’t dying.

If anything that you want is already sold out, just save the link and keep checking back. A lot of things are coming back in stock after one or two days, so your favorite piece will probably be back soon.

Finally, Ebates does 6% cashback for Nordstrom sales, so you should definitely sign up for Ebates before you do any shopping!

Shopping Reviews Vol 29 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

Eliza J Ruffle Hem Stretch Fit & Flare Dress (Size 2)

Guys, I have absolutely no reason to keep this dress…but I love it so much. It fits so perfectly and the fabric is the perfect ponte where its structured, but stretchy. What should I do? I could always just wear it to work and justify it later….
Verdict: Undecided.

Socialite Cowl Neck Shift Dress (XS)

I’m a little undecided on this one because it’s selling point is also the trouble point: the pockets. I obviously don’t need to tell you why pockets are a selling point. The trouble with it is that they can sometimes sit on my hips funny and make them look wider. Over all, the dress is comfortable and you could easily wear it now or with tights in the fall. I’ve also ordered the black and white striped, so we’ll see how that turns out.
Verdict: Undecided at the moment.
Note: not in sale, I just wanted to try it out

Socialite ‘Serena’ Strappy Tank Dress (XS)

I was actually really pleasantly surprised with the length of this dress. Normally they’re awkwardly short and an immediate no.  I think though that I would want to wear this dress down and the purple is a little too dark for me. The other downside is that I clearly can’t wear this to work, so I’m nervous about getting it and then not wearing it that much on weekends to justify it.
Verdict: Return, consider another color.

Zella ‘Live In – Sutra’ Leggings (XS)

First, let’s all take a minute to laugh at the unintentional booty pop on the right. Okay, back to the review. I’ve been curious about Zella leggings for a while, and I was pleasantly surprised with these. They fit well and I love the mesh inserts. I can easily see wearing these to pure barre a lot.
Verdict: Keep

Alo ‘Yen’ Mesh Inset Ribbed Sweatpants (XS)

Why do pockets keep betraying me?? I think the answer for this one is kind of clear, pockets and leggings don’t go together…..but these leggings are so unbelievably comfortable. Like, calling them sweatpants is not a stretch. I’m actually kind of excited to wear them to for work at pure barre in the fall. Also, I did realize while trying them on that the pocket problem can be solved by wearing them as high waisted.
Verdict: Keep

Lauren Ralph Lauren Quilt Vest (XS)

After how much use my navy vest got last fall, I was excited to try out a more high quality vest. This one fit, and I loved the brown accents. The only downside is that it felt a little too big.
Verdict: Return
(Especially since the one below comes in navy)

Gallery Quilted Vest with Faux Suede Trim (Size PP)

Yes. Yes. Yes. I’m totally in love with this vest. I love the fabric contrast on the side and the length was perfect. The only weird thing was the buckle at the top, but you can easily unbuckle that and ignore it.
Verdict: So much keep.

Madewell ‘Fleet’ Jacket (XS)

I was so excited for this jacket but then the arms were way too tight. So maybe this jacket would work without long sleeves? Or at least without a sweater? I don’t know, I wasn’t as in love with it in person as I was expecting.
Verdict: Return

Treasure&Bond ‘Explorer’ Utility Jacket & Vest (XS)

I’ll admit, I was totally just trying it on because I was curious about it last year, but then it sold out immediately. I was pretty pleased with the fit of the jacket and happy that it covered my seat. One thing to note is that the vest is removable so you can wear the jacket with or without it. Without the vest, the jacket would be fairly light, but good for fall or over a sweater. I already have my utility jacket from Old Navy though, so I’m going to stick with that one for now.
Verdict: Return

Patagonia Packable Down Sweater Jacket (XS)

I love this jacket. They aren’t kidding when they say that this jacket is packable. I could tell just from the packaging that I could easily fold this up and stuff it in my suitcase…but it’s also going to keep me warm and dry. I’m going to definitely keep this and I have a feeling it’ll be going to Alaska with me in August.
Verdict: Keep

Barbour ‘Badminton’ Waterproof Waxed Cotton Jacket (US 4)

I had to see what the fuss was about, I couldn’t help it! After trying the jacket on, I kind of understand. The jacket was warm, I could see it keeping me dry, and it was very clear that it was good quality. However, even with the sale price, I couldn’t justify keeping it.
Verdict: Return

Barbour ‘Millfire’ Hooded Quilted Jacket (US 4)

Since this Barbour was marked down to a decent price for a jacket, I decided to try it out. This one paled in comparison in sizing. The hips and arms were too tight, but the chest was too large. Clearly, not for me.
Verdict: Return
