TWO SENTENCE SUMMARY

Sally, A female writer on a “Saturday Night Live” type show has sworn off love completely. Which is fine, until finds herself unexpectedly starting to fall for the show’s upcoming celebrity host and singer.

WHAT I LIKED MOST AND WHAT FRUSTRATED ME

What I liked: give me a behind the scenes book any day. Even though this was fiction, I felt like I was living in the SNL offices and I loved every minute of it. I ate up every second of Sally’s life as a show writer.

What frustrated me the most was when the book entered covid times. But this is an incredibly personal preference. I prefer when books take place in a relatively covid free time. That being said, I thought that Sittenfeld managed that situation incredibly well and I didn’t mind it as much as I normally would. It also helped that it was not the majority of the book. If it had been, I might have put the book down.

RECOMMENDED FOR

If you’re looking for other fictional behind the scenes books, I would recommend:

Thank You for Listening by Julia Whelan, The Daydreams by Laura Hankin (my review is coming soon), A Merry Little Meet Cute by Julie Murphy and Sierra Simone, Rosaline Palmer Takes the Cake by Alexis Hall, How to Fake It in Hollywood by Ava Wilder, You Had Me at Hola by Alexis Daria, The Holiday Swap by Maggie Knox, One to Watch by Kate Stayman-London, The Honey-Don’t List by Christina Lauren, and Spoiler Alert by Olivia Dade.

I also made an easy widget for you to just scroll though some suggestions.
