Using Pantone’s Color of the Year to Figure Out My Colors

I was reading an article the other day that was all about what goes into picking colors. Specifically, what goes into picking the color of the year.*

*Quick side note: color of the year is a designated color picked Pantone. This color is declared to be the color that will be the most popular and used color.

I’ve seen bloggers in the past get really into color of the year, from outfits to home decor, some people go all in. That can also depend on the color though. The year it was bright green, I think it may have had less fans.

Thinking about this made me start thinking about my colors. Or rather, the colors I love to wear.

It’s varied in the past, when I used to try push myself out of my comfort zone. But it also made me figure how what I colors I loved to wear. Also, what colors I defaulted to. I realized that if it’s a neutral, I’m all in. Navy is basically a neutral in my mind. But my time pushing myself to try new things made me figure out what colors I like. Hunter green? Yes, please. Dark reds and pale pinks? I’m all about it. The most surprising one of all? Yellow! As long as it’s not a highlighter, I’m fairly okay with it.

Realizing this has made shopping and getting dressed so much easier.

I stress less over what colors I think will look good or what I’ll be comfortable in. I also know that a majority of my wardrobe will match the rest of my wardrobe. It’s an oddly comforting thing.

While I’m always interested to see what Pantone’s Color of the Year is, I know I’m most likely not going to fall for the trendiness of it. But learning about it has been priceless in figuring out my own colors.

What do you think of Pantone’s Color of the Year? Have you heard of it before? Also, what colors do you love to wear?
