Give Back and Have Your Life Changed with Omaze

If you’re a super rich person, you get to go to fancy gala and bid money on super fancy experience. You know what I’m talking about: fancy experiences free trips to wineries, celebrity chefs cooking dinner for you, or going on a cruise with your favorite actors. Fancy things like that. Things us mere mortals could only dream of and not spend thousands of dollars to bid on.

But what if we all had the chance to have amazing experiences and didn’t have to spend all of that money? Wouldn’t that be nice?

Guess what? We can!

It’s called Omaze

Have you heard of Omaze?

What is it?

Omaze offers once in a lifetime experiences online that anyone has the chance to win. They change it up from the basic gala bid, by moving the bidding experience online, where anyone can place a bid.

Omaze understands that fundraising, galas, and auctions for nonprofits are time consuming and often don’t fully meet the whole goals of the organization. So they’ve decided to help the nonprofits out by doing the work for the nonprofits. Omaze wants to challenge the way people think about fundraising and change it for the better.

How does it work?

Omaze partners with a nonprofit and then pairs it with an amazing experience. From there, anyone is able to go onto Omaze’s website and place a “bid.” That bid is actually a donation to the nonprofit! Now, there is a caveat, your whole donation doesn’t actually go to the nonprofit. Here’s how it breaks down:

  • You contribute $10 for a chance to win an experience
  • $6 is donated to the charity
  • $2.50 on average goes towards marketing expenses and credit card fees
  • Omaze nets the remaining $1.50.

Honestly, this is so much better than a regular auction. Why? Well for a regular auction, it would break down like this:

  • You contribute $10
  • $1.50 is donated to the charity;
  • $7 typically goes to sourcing and shipping the prize, covering the winner’s taxes, marketing the experience, and processing credit card fees.

See what I mean?

Let’s talk experiences

Here’s where the site really shines. The experiences. The choices here are GOOD. I’ve seen some of my favorite actors post opportunities on here and there are a bunch I’m ready to go bid on now. Here are my current favorites.

Bake cookies with Jennifer Garner

Get a Taste of Italy with Chef Massimo Bottura & Dine at Osteria Francescana

Will you bid on one?

Here’s a little incentive for you! If you bid on any opportunities between now and Sunday night (8/25), and forward me your receipt (Dana@somethinggoodblog.com), I’ll send you a little surprise in the mail!
