Never Pay Full Price: 3 Budget Shopping Tips

Note: This post was done in collaboration with Skylar Griffin. Thank you for supporting the brands and people that support Something Good!
I was about to start this post with “so blank and blank are about to go on sale” but then I realized that lately every weekend has felt like some major sale. Has anyone else felt like that? Between the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, “Black Friday in July,” and summer clearance sales, I’m starting to get a little sale fatigue.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m still browsing all of them, because the deals are great. However, at this point if you buy anything full price, you’re making a rookie mistake. In honor of all of these sales, I’ve teamed up with Skylar Griffin to share some basic shopping tips that you need to keep in mind whenever you’re shopping online.

Never Pay Full Price: 3 Budget Shopping Tips

Use Online Shopping Features

One of the best things about shopping online is how easy it is to separate the pieces. You can compare those that are too expensive from those that you can actually afford. A lot of shopping websites make it easy for you to filter the clothes. Others allow you to scroll through the styles beginning at the lowest price. If you have a tendency to overspend when you come across beautiful purses you might enjoy Lyst’s handbag page. In addition to presenting the latest trends from a variety of designers, it lets you choose a price threshold, among other filters, as you shop.

Start with Sale

Whether online or in-store, it’s important you head straight for the sale section before you do anything else! It’s another version of the price threshold technique mentioned above, beelining for the reduced-price products make sure that you don’t fall in love with something that’s totally out of your budget. Babble makes a good point, though: You need to be patient. It might take time to go through the racks, but when you find a steal, it will be totally worth it!

Shop Out of Season

It can seem silly to buy a puffer coat in the dog days of summer. However, buying items out of season is a very simple trick for those more expensive, but quality items. That being said, there are limits to the pieces you should invest in when using this tactic. Don’t get anything too particularly trendy, because then it will literally be “so last season.” Instead, buy trusty basics (like a great trench or a little black bikini) that will never go out of style. If you’re into fitness, Cheat Sheet recommends buying winter sports gear off-season, too. The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, is a great time to pick up your winter jackets, sweaters, and boots (link to my post here).
