Sunday Book Club: Modern Adaptations of Classic Novels

I have no idea when I started loving modern adaptations of classic novels. I don’t even think I could tell you which book it started with. It might have actually started with discovering that Clueless was based on Emma (even though that’s a movie). I loved how brilliantly the story was adapted for the 90s and how the screenwriter made Emma into Cher, a high school match-maker.

Though adaptations are not a new thing (Shakespeare was the king of adaptations), the abundance of fun and entertaining adaptations in the last decade has grown ten fold. There’s been everything from solo adaptations to collections of authors adapting a single author’s collection of works. Since we all have plenty of reading time, I thought it would be fun to share some of my favorite adaptations and what adaptations I have on my to read list.
