The Little Black Jumpsuit that’s Perfect for Any Dressy Holiday Party (Especially New Year’s Eve)

If a little black jumpsuit isn’t a thing, I’m officially making it one now. It’s the sassier friend of the little black dress and now that it’s in my life, I never want it to leave.

I originally got this jumpsuit back in September (maybe earlier?), but then couldn’t really find an occasion to wear it. Since it has a cutout back, it’s not exactly work appropriate without a tank top underneath and I hadn’t really gathered the courage to try it on. But once the holidays rolled around, I knew that it was going to be the perfect piece for holiday parties.

The Little Black Jumpsuit

There are a lot of perks to getting a little black jumpsuit, but there are a few hurdles you need to jump. The first hurdle? Finding one.

Where to Find Your Little Black Jumpsuit

ASOS

There are SO MANY JUMPSUITS at ASOS. I was honestly overwhelmed with all of the options there. But the good thing about that is that it meant I had a lot to work with. ASOS is also a great option because many of the styles come in regular, petite, and tall.

Nordstrom

Everything is going to be a little more pricey here, but the style and fabrics will also be a little nicer than the fabrics at ASOS. You also have the benefits of free shipping and returns if nothing works out.

Amazon

They’re really the savior of this month, aren’t they? You really can’t beat the prices or wide variety of options there. Especially with the prices ranging from $100 to $200.

How to Decide If Your Little Black Jumpsuit is Appropriate

Some people get worried about wearing jumpsuits, because they think that the rules for wearing them are different than wearing dresses to an event. But that’s not true! In fact, the rules are exactly the same.

So how do you figure out if it is or isn’t appropriate for the occasion? Follow the rules back in my Nighttime Office Holiday Party post! Just remember to keep it classy and if you have to go “less” (bra-less, back-less, etc.), it’s probably not work appropriate. For the record, I did not wear this outfit to a work related holiday function.

How to Style Your Little Black Jumpsuit for a Holiday Party

Aim for Balance with your Jewelry

Styling your little black jumpsuit can really depend on the jumpsuit itself. For instance, I knew that I wanted to wear my bright red heels and something sparkly. For the sparkle, I decided that since my hair was going to be down and loose, I wanted to draw attention to my necklace and only a necklace. Anything more would have been over the top. In fact, that’s why I decided to go with pearl earrings. They contrasted with the necklace and didn’t take away any sparkle. If my hair had been up, then I would have gone with some sort of dangly earrings and passed on the necklace.

The Perfect Cover Up

Think you may be cold? This is not the time to pull out a cardigan. In fact, just imagine me smacking that cardigan out of your hands. This is when you should pull out either a blazer or that moto jacket that’s been hanging out in your closet. It will make your outfit ten times more fun and ten times sassier than you were originally planning. Don’t think you can pull off that look? Well stop telling yourself that, you totally can.

The Most Important Part: Your Shoes

As I said earlier, it’s all about balance….but it’s also the holidays, so it’s also the one time of year where you can get away with going big. So if you want to wear the sparkly shoes with the sparkly jewelry, do it. If you want to be super colorful, do it. Or if you want to play down the shoes and play up everything else, do it.
