Shopping Reviews, Vol. 76 J.Crew Sale

Another day, more outfit reviews! All of these are items that I purchased back in November/December, (as you can tell from my budget). But, due to scheduling and timing, I didn’t have the post ready until today! The good news for you though, is that now all of these items are part of the J.Crew Factory or J.Crew sale (s) going on right now!

J.Crew factory Faux-suede mini skirt, Size 2

I really thought I was done with this ruffle skirt trend….but I had to try out this brown suede skirt. All of the reviews said to size up, so I went for a 2 instead of my usual 0 and it fit perfectly. The only thing that you have to watch for is if the ruffles get kind of stiff and stick straight out. Other than that, I love it (and see how I styled it here!)

Verdict: Keep!

I’ll randomly start up my search for a good lace skirt every year and then subsequently give up. I just never find one I love enough. This one is pretty close though. It falls at a length where it’ll be decent for work, but it’s still fairly cute. The only thing is that while the skirt feels comfortable, the waistband is a little loose. I don’t want to go a size smaller because that’ll just look obscene on me, so I think I’ll be fine with the slightly loose band (it’s not too bad, just noticeable to me).

Verdict: Keep

DC woman blogger wearing J.Crew classic crewneck sweater

J.Crew Cropped crewneck sweater in Fair Isle, XS

I can’t decide about this sweater! I love the print and the material is surprisingly not that scratchy (maybe a hint for a second, and then it goes away). The problem is, I can’t decide if I like that it’s slightly cropped or not. With high waist jeans, you can’t really tell, but I’m iffy about the look with other jeans.

Verdict: Undecided, help!

I actually had to try this sweater on in two sizes before finding the correct one. I bought this sweater last year in the cream color and loved it. So when I saw that it was coming back again this year, I knew I wanted to pick up a second color. I got the green in an XS, but when I tried it one, it was lumpy and too big. I figured I may have gotten a weird one, but when I tried on the sweater in XXS, it just turns out that these sweaters are running a bit large this year. Or they aren’t as fitted? So if you want a more fitted look, size down one size. But, if you want it to be a little looser, go for your regular size. Personally, with crew necks like these, I prefer them to be fitted, so I stuck with the XXS.

Verdict: Keep

I wanted to love this sweater. It was such a cute and fun concept (and I love everything styled after ballerinas). But I just didn’t love it. I don’t know if the fabric was too lightweight or the neckline was too in between styles, but it just didn’t seem to do it for me.

Verdict: Return

Yes, I love green this year. You’ll get over it. Probably, I won’t though. I tried on this rollneck after seeing it on Anne and loving how she looked in it. I really love the style and the sweater was super soft, but I don’t think I can justify getting two green sweaters that have very similar colors and styles. The argument could be made that this is more relaxed and the other one is more office friendly, but truthfully, that probably just means I should get the more office friendly one and think about how much I love this one while I’m returning it.

Verdict: Return

I always get really sad when I see a top that looks really cool but then I try it on and all I can think is WTF?? That was me with this top (if you didn’t already guess). I don’t know what’s going on with the cut of it, but it just isn’t good. The neckline seemed oddly shaped (or too big) The one thing that I did like is that this sweater used more of the scuba material, so it was a little thicker and stretchy.

Verdict: Return

Ah, the neverending collect all the plaid tops story of my life (I should really just change the title of this blog to Something Plaid.). This one was cute, but a few things held me back from it. First, the material was really stiff and not really what you want out of shirt material. Second, hooked or unhooked, the neckline just looked too silly on me. I just couldn’t seem to make it work (despite how much I loved the print).

DC woman blogger wearing J.Crew turtleneck dress

J.Crew turtleneck dress in supersoft yarn, XXS

I think I’m giving up on the sweater dress hunt. It’s just gotten too weird. Everything either looks like a sack or is way too tight. This dress was a weird mix of fitted in all the wrong places. It felt like it was fitted in the lower half, but then super loose in the top. Also, I did not like the yarn used for this dress. I know it says super soft, but it was also super uncomfortable.

Verdict: Return!

That’s all for now! Are you shopping any of the big clearance sales this week? Have you picked up anything good?
