How To Wear A Cape Scarf

When I was packing for my Europe trip this past December, I wanted to make sure I had as many versatile pieces as possible. I knew that because I only had my carry on suitcase and my backpack, space was going to be tight, so everything I picked couldn’t be a piece I would only wear once.

I was originally going to bring a blanket scarf, but when I was browsing J.Crew Factory, I discovered their cape scarves! It was the perfect solution. You see, this scarf is perfect because you can easily wear it around your neck outside. Then, once you head inside and take your jacket off, you can throw it over your shoulders and wear it like a shawl or a cape.

It’s the perfect winter-y item and I got compliments on it throughout my trip (and when I came back to the US. Plus, I’ve also been able to wear it to work as well.

While my scarf it heavy enough for winter and fall, I’ve seen some lighter linen ones that would be great for the spring. Not going to lie, I’m really tempted to get one.

And now that I’ve talked way too much about them already, let’s get into how to wear a cape scarf and my cape scarf outfit.

How To Wear A Cape Scarf

As a Scarf

When I wore it as a scarf, my style for wearing it was pretty simple. Just wear the scarf around your neck! Ha! But really, I’ll get into the specifics in a minute.

As a Cape

So what makes this more of a cape then just wearing a scarf over your shoulders? IT HAS ARM HOLES! So I drape the scarf over my shoulders like it’s a shawl, then I just slip my hands/arms through the arm hole. Bam! Done.

As a Blanket

I only really use it as a blanket as a last resort. Aka it’s freezing and my legs are shaking. Or it’s nap time? But you know what? It made a nice blanket (and sometimes pillow) on the plane, so who am I to complain? (I also use a blanket scarf as at work as a blanket for when my legs get cold as well, haha.)

How To Tie A Cape Scarf

The only time I really tie my scarf is when I wear it around my neck. And in that case, the tie is super simple. Since the shape of these scarves tend to be more of a rectangle than a triangle, I just wrapped it around my neck once. I then just let the two ends hang down the front. If it’s super cold, I try to fluff up the part around my neck to keep it super warm. since the shape of these scarves tend to be more of a rectangle than a triangle, I just wrapped it around my neck once. Different Style Cape Scarves

One of the things I love about cape scarves right now is how many different styles they come in! You can get silk, different colors, different patterns, really whatever your heart desires! Here are some of my favorites from around the web.

Have you tried out cape scarves yet? What do you think about them?
