How to Style a Leopard Print Skirt for Work

It took a while for me to start wearing leopard. For the longest time I shied away from it. But it was actually because of this blog that I started incorporating leopard into my wardrobe. It was in small piece though. Mostly just my shoes, but sometimes a belt or a clutch. This skirt though was the first time I’ve really branched into a full clothing piece. I was a little nervous to try and figure out what I was going to do with it, but I think I figured it out.

How to Style a Leopard Print Skirt for Work

I’m definitely going to share more ways for to style this skirt, but I wanted to figure out a way I could wear it to work. After all, that is where I am 5 of the 7 days of the week.

Keep the Skirt as the Focal Point

The first thing I want to think about is keeping the skirt as the focal point of my outfit. After all, it’s such an attention getting piece and your eye is already drawn to it. I don’t want to wear something else that’s going to draw the focus away from that. So how am I going to do that?

Stick to Neutrals

The whites, blacks, grays, anything that will let this skirt shine and won’t take your focus from the skirt. You also then don’t have to worry about the colors clashing with your skirt. I think I’m also going to make an exception for chambray, because chambray goes with everything, right?

Don’t add in prints (or at least other animal prints)

Stripes and polka dots? Stripes and plaid? Some prints I’m all for mixing. But I don’t know if I’m ready to mix this with anything too crazy yet. Or at least don’t mix animal prints with other animal prints. Leave the jungle back in the jungle.

Should I test this out with stripes though? I can’t decide!

Be careful regarding bulky fabrics

Since this skirt is so light, you can pull it off with a cozy sweater. However, you really need to be careful that your outfit doesn’t look too bulky. I originally was going to pair this with my sweater blazer, but it just added too much bulk to the look. You couldn’t really see the definition of the skirt around my waist. However, if you had a sweater and you were to tuck in the front, it would look super cute!

Choose Your Shoes Wisely

I love shoes. I love using my shoes as the way to go a little crazy when the rest of my outfit is fairly neutral. But this is one of the times when I wouldn’t do that. For this skirt, I would again keep it simple. Stick to a simple silhouette and find a shoe that doesn’t distract from the rest of the outfit. These J.Crew Factory sandals are a favorite of mine that are fairly neutral. The fact that they’re super comfortable helps too!
