The Workday Reading: September 9, 2015:

Do Something Good

As much as I’ve complained about my student loan debt in the past, not for a moment do I regret the fact that I was given the ability to not only attend an amazing graduate school, but an amazing undergrad, high school, and elementary/middle school. This opportunity isn’t something that’s available to everyone though. I had many classmates in high and college who were first generation graduates and it really reinforced how many people aren’t able to get any education. In many low income countries, children have a hard enough time getting an education, but it’s even worse for many girls. In many of these countries, girls educations aren’t valued and these girls never get the opportunity to attend school.  She’s the First is a nonprofit that is working to fix that. She’s the First helps provide scholarships to girls in low income countries. They work closely to identify potential scholars with the help of international, locally driven NGOs within those communities.

Through their work, they’ve already sponsored 555 scholars and they’ve worked with 125 chapters on college campuses to help raise awareness and funds for their cause.

How can you help?

You could sponsor a girl, join or start a campus chapter (if you’re currently in college), or take part in one of their MANY take action opportunities.
