DC is getting a major surge of fall weather today and tomorrow so I’m going to use this opportunity to wrap up some of the Fall outfit posts I, um, didn’t write during my uninspired months of September and October. Better late than never right?

ANYWAYS, we’re going to be talking about blazers today. Why? Well, once the crisp fall weather hits, blazers are a staple. It doesn’t matter if you’re going to work or if you’re a street style star (which I am most certainly not), you’re going to be putting in a blazer into your outfit at SOME point. For me personally, I love wearing them to work or on weekends, especially since I discovered the amazing-ness that is sweater blazers (thank you J.Crew).

Four Fall Blazer Outfit Ideas

Since blazers have been appearing on my blog in a major way in the last few years, I thought it was only appropriate that I share some of those looks and different ways you can wear your blazers. Below are four great fall blazer outfit ideas to get you started!

Plaid Blazers for Work

Is anyone surprised I have a plaid blazer? No one? Okay. Well, let’s keep going. Plaid blazers are one of my favorite pieces to style for work. I know, I know you can wear blazers for other occasions. But honestly these are just so chic, you just want to show these off for work first.

Now, with plaid blazers it can get tricky because there’s already a lot going on. So you need to make sure to keep everything else in your outfit simple. Solid colors is key! I prefer neutrals to keep it easy, but you could add in a pop of color if you wanted. Just keep it as simple as possible. You blazer is the key piece here, so make sure the attention stays on the blazer.

Also, if you’re petite, please get a petite plaid blazer! Otherwise your blazer will look like it’s swallowing you.

Styling Your Blazers with Scarves

If your blazer is a neutral color, one way to really make it pop is to style it with a scarf. I know some people can shy away from silk scarves. But they can make a really chic outfit. You can tie your scarf around your neck or just around your purse handle for a more casual chic look. But I promise either way it’ll look good.

An extra tip: if you want to tie your scarf around your neck, pay attention to your ratios. If your blazer is fitted, your scarf can be any size. But if your jacket is oversize, maybe just stick to a smaller neck tie. So your look doesn’t get too overwhelmed.

Blazers for Work Fashion (and dresses!)

I told you I couldn’t resist work fashion. After all, I go to work every day. And while I may be working from home right now, I do still have to look presentable on camera. Which often means, you guessed it, a blazer. When I’m styling a blazer with a dress for work, I try to aim for a blazer that hits around or right below my hips, but also pinches in at the waist. I feel like these blazers are a tad more professional and lean more business casual. By the way, if you’re looking for more business casual fashion tips, I did a whole series about how to dress business casual!

Also, yes my outfit on the left is a little more of a spring summer outfit, but it’s a also a great summer/fall transition outfit.

Styling your blazer for a weekend look

When I’m aiming for a weekend look with my blazers, it’s pretty easy to style. I just grab my longer sweater blazers and a pair of jeans. Then with a simple top and comfortable shoes, I’m good to go to run errands! Or with loafer mules, like I did it the first photo in this post, I look like I could be meeting up with someone for a casual lunch.

But what’s even better is that if I want to dress up my outfit, all I have to do is throw on a pair of heels, like, I did in the outfit below.

In the fall, blazers can act as your jacket and they’re so ridiculously versatile, you’re crazy to not fill your wardrobe with them.
