Guess what’s back? Yup, the sale of all sales. Amazon Prime Day. Also, the sales that all other sales want to compete with.
This week is going to be rough on our wallets. All of the stores want to compete with each other! But if you play your cards right, you can stock up on presents now and be set for the rest of the year.
Just make sure to make a list of what you actually need (for presents and for yourself) so you aren’t wasting your money on useless items.
Shopping Amazon Prime Day
But first, let’s go over what Amazon Prime Day is.
Amazon Prime Day is the crazy two where Amazon puts their best products on sale. You don’t have to be a member to shop it (I’ll get to that soon), but it helps if you are. They offer crazy deals on everything from Kindles to snacks to fashion. There will be items that are on sale all day and items that go on flash sale throughout the 36 hours. It can be incredibly fun, but also super overwhelming.
The best way to go about Amazon Prime is to create a game plan.
Join Amazon Prime for free
If you already have Amazon Prime, you’re set. But if you don’t have Amazon Prime, did you know that you can get a free 30 day trial of it? That means you can sign up for it right now, shop Amazon Prime Day, get all of the best deals, and then cancel your subscription.
If you’re about to tell me that you’re bad at remembering to cancel subscriptions, stop right there. As soon as you’re done signing up for Amazon Prime, go into your calendar, go to exactly one month from today and set a reminder to cancel Amazon Prime. Bam. Done
Start making lists of what you’re looking for
Are you buying something for yourself? Are you finally giving in and getting that Kindle for yourself? Do you finally want to give Amazon fashion a chance (which you should, by the way)? List it out!
Amazon also created a great sneak peek option that you can use to what items you’re interested in will have a deal available on Prime Day. Also, if Prime Day has already started by the time you’re reading this, you can use Amazon Assistant to get desktop notifications when the item you want goes on sale.
Evaluate needs vs wants
I’m officially starting to sound like my mom! But before you hit that buy button, just think it through. Do you need that Amazon echo, or do you just want it? Is that random gadget you found in the flash sales actually going to be helpful? I’m not trying to be a debbie downer, just be logical here. It’s a little bit harder to return to Amazon than it is to Nordstrom, after all.

Amazon Alexa Fire Stick
I live and breathe by my Amazon Fire Stick. (Is that a bit extreme?) As a bit of a tv addict, I couldn’t really cut the cable cord without an adequate replacement. The Amazon Alexa Fire Stick is that! It just plugs into the back of my tv and I can connect my Netflix, Hulu, and Sling accounts (and any other apps)! Plus, you also have easy access to all of Amazon’s movies, tv, and music library. When you see how inexpensive it is, you’ll think someone is playing a joke on you. Kindle Paperwhite E-reader, $94.99 (Normally $139.99)
I’m obsessed with my kindle, I’m not afraid to say it. And I’m sure you’ve heard me say it so many times that you’re convinced by now to get one, right? We’ll now is the time to get one! I actually got mine through the sale in 2016. But you’re lucky that you’re getting yours now because it’s now $85 and waterproof (the dream!)
Also, if you already own a kindle, you can actually trade it in and get up to $35 off of a new one!
CHI Original Ceramic Hair Straightening Flat Iron, $57.12 (Previously $99.98)
I’ve had my current CHI for over 10 years at this point. That means that it’s easier going to die within the next day or last for another 10 years. I’m not taking any chances. This is one of the best straighteners I’ve ever had and it does a decent job of actually protecting my hair.
Apple AirPods Pro Wireless Earbuds with MagSafe Charging Case, $169.98 (Previously $250.00)
My wireless headphones have completely disappeared. Completely. They could be on another planet or in a waste bin for all I know. I haven’t used any Apple AirPods (or headphones for that matter) in years, but the reviews on these were so good, I couldn’t resist. If I have to replace headphones, might as well go for some good ones, right? If they don’t work as well as I want, then I’m going back to these or these.
Lanvier 1 Inch/25mm Extra Long Hair Curling Iron, $21.59 (Previously $34.99)
I can count on one hand the influencers I follow who I will actually take their product advice. One of these people is Rambling Redhead (Jen Todryk). She has the most amazing hair and if this is the curling iron she uses, I’m in.
RENPHO Heated Eye Massager for Migraines, $49.63 (Previously $99.99)
Another Jen recommendation! I’ll try a lot of things that will help my migraines. This is one of those things. I’ll let you know if it actually works!
Anker Cordless Handheld Vacuum Cleaner, $35.99 (Previously 59.99)
I can not wait to attack our couch with this thing. We have a great vacuum cleaner, but it would be nice to not have to pull out the giant vacuum cleaner, when this nice handheld one will do!
TheraICE Rx Form Fitting Gel Ice Headache / Migraine Relief Hat, $27.96 ($39.95)
Another migraine relief item! Why? Well, different migraines need different things and this has been on my “to try” this for a while. Fingers crossed it works!
Cuisinart ANS-TOA2528 Non-Stick Airfryer Basket, $19.99 (Previously $21.83)
I love my airfryer, but the basket is not easy to clean. Gee Thanks says that this is a much better option, so why not try it out?
Harry Potter Complete Book Series Special Edition Boxed Set, $55.74
Nerdy? Yes, but I’ve wanted to get one of the pretty box sets for a while and this is the lowest price I’ve ever seen.
Ray-Ban Rb2140 Original Wayfarer Sunglasses, $114.10 (Previously $163.00)
I still think about and deeply regret losing my Ray-Bans three years ago at a conference. I’ve put off getting any new, nicer sunglasses, but I’m finally biting the bullet and getting a new pair. I’m considering either this pair or this pair. Now, I know that this is a lot to spend on sunglasses, but trust me, you can tell the difference.

Do I need more shoes? No. Will I return these? Maybe. But did I want to try them on? Yes.
True & Co Women’s True Body Triangle Convertible Strap Bra, $26.40 (Previously $44.00)
These are hands down my favorite bras. I switched to them during the pandemic when I was done with wired bras and I’ve never looked back. I wear these every day and trust me, they’ll be your favorite bras too.
