Cleaning My Apartment: How I Prep for Vacation

Note: This post is sponsored by Bona® but the content and opinions expressed here are my own.

Whenever I go on vacation, there’s always one rule, or idea, I like to follow before I leave home “no one likes to come back from vacation to a dirty home.” Yup, cleaning my apartment is something I always try to do before I leave for vacation.

It’s a silly idea, and it can sometimes be difficult to accomplish because you’re hustling around before a vacation trying to get things done. But for me, cleaning my apartment can be one of my most important pre-vacation tasks. After all, you want to come home from vacation and feel like you can continue it just a little bit longer. You don’t want to be smacked in the face by the reality of dirty dishes and all of the things you need to get done.

Change Your Bed Sheets

Is there anything better than climbing into a bed with clean sheets? No? I rest my case.

Do a load (or four) of laundry

This will not only help with packing (where was that sweater that you wanted to pack?), but it’ll also be handy for when you come back. You won’t have to add any of your dirty travel laundry to your already growing pile of laundry. Everything will have already been washed, folded, and put away.

Take out the trash

Hi smells. Bye Felicia.

Wash all of the dishes in the sink.

put away the clutter!

It really is the enemy of everyone. Plus, it’ll feel good to get everything out of your face. It can give you a clear mindset before you go on vacation.

Sweep and Mop the floors

To some people this might seem like an excessive step, but let’s talk about this one. If you aren’t consistently sweeping or mopping your floors, they’re building up a lot of dirt and dust. A lot more than you would probably think. So if you’re only going to clean them every once in a while, why not make it right before you go out of town so you can come back to shiny hard wood floors?

Also, if you’re only going to clean them once in a while, then you need to bring out the big guns. A mini solution just won’t do it, especially if you’re cleaning hardwood floors.

What do I suggest using?

Well, the Bona Hardwood Floor Cleaner is specially designed to effectively removes dust, dirt and grime leaving your floors clean and beautiful. Combining it with the Bona Floor mop gives you a powerful combination that is super easy to use. I was able to easily clean my kitchen floors in under 10 minutes and then move on to my next task. I may not suggest using it for any flooring other than hardwood though. For any other floors, I can check out the other lines of Bona (like stone, tile, and laminate cleaner.)

It’s already helped me clean up after what could have turned into some very sticky disasters on my kitchen floor.

So that’s how I clean up my apartment before I go on my vacation.

Sometimes if I have time, I’ll throw in something extra like cleaning the bathroom. But mostly, I stick to what’s above and get that done. It gives me the piece of mind I need before I leave for vacation.
