Blogger Style Two Ways: The Knit Black Cardigan

Anne and I have struggled in the past to pick outfit pieces, but I think this may have been the hardest time we’ve had in a while nailing down a piece. We may have changed our minds about five times. Why? Well, it’s not like our closets have changed. We’re as matching as ever. It’s more like our brains have shorted and we don’t know how to put together outfits anymore. Well, that and I’m in Wisconsin this week for personal reasons so I was pretty limited in clothing pieces (ha!). Luckily, we finally landed on our chunky knit black cardigans. Boring? Maybe. Oh so wonderful, warm, and cozy? Yes.

How to Style a Knit Black Cardigan

When it comes to styling a knit black cardigan, I feel like you can go two ways. You can either lean into the cozy, casual or you can really have some fun with it. I’ve worn this cardigan so many times since I bought it two months ago, that I’ve basically done both at this point. For today’s post though, I decided to have a little more fun.

Dressing up the Knit Black Cardigan

During winter, I really like to play around with neutrals for my outfits. I don’t know if it’s boredom or that I know that I really can’t go wrong with my outfit. But I somehow always manage to pull a fun outfit out of it.

Black Jeans and The Ankle Boots

The key to dressing up this outfit was the black jeans and the ankle boots. I’ve said it before, but the darker your denim is, the nicer your outfit looks. Well, can you get any darker than black denim? The black jeans also elongates your leg, which just instantly looks good.

These ankle boots were an impulse purchase when they went on sale the other month, and I haven’t regretted it. I haven’t really had anywhere to go, but they make me look a little more dressed up when I do throw them on. I love the little houndstooth print on them (I’ve always struggled with a printed boot) and the little sock detail is so cute.

Finally, I added cute little dangly earrings for an added dressy touch. It ties the whole outfit together and adds another pattern into the mix.

Dressing down the cardigan

The best part about this outfit is that it would be super easy to change out a few things an easily dress this outfit down.

Switch out the Jeans and flats!

Yes, it’s actually that easy. I would just switch out my black pants for a lighter, maybe looser, pair of jeans. Then I would switch out my ankle boots for a pair of flats or tennis shoes. If I was spending the day inside, I might even just throw on a pair of slippers. Instant comfort and a super cozy outfit. So many wins.
