By December, my brain was basically dead. I had fully run out of steam and doing things just seemed so difficult. Which meant that when it came to reading, I just wanted brain candy. Which meant a lot of romcoms, romance novels, and a few others thrown in there. So let’s dive into the January 2021 Reading List.

January 2021 Reading List

When He Was Wicked by Julia Quinn

When He Was Wicked by Julia Quinn

Have I mentioned how much I love the Bridgertons? Well in this novel, we FINALLY get to hear from Francesca and learn about her life up in Scotland. Since I never knew much about her, I didn’t realize how much I would love her! While the book seemed to run long in a few places, I completely enjoyed it overall.

The Midnight Library by Matt Haig

The Midnight Library by Matt Haig

I had no idea what to expect from this book going into it, only that many people seemed to really enjoy it. After reading it, I understand why. It took the idea of sliding doors, and played with it in the best way.

Party of Two by Jasmine Guillory

Party of Two by Jasmine Guillory

I think this might be my favorite book of Jasmine Guillory. Which, considering this is her fifth book, that says a lot. Her other books have been good, but I think this is by far her best. This one really feels full circle and I highly recommend it.

Eligible by Curtis Sittenfeld

Eligible by Curtis Sittenfeld

This was actually a re-read for me for book club, and it still holds up! This is a Pride and Prejudice retelling and I absolutely love it. I think I may need to reread it every few years actually.

Jane in Love by Rachel Givney

Jane in Love by Rachel Givney

The premise of this book is so silly, but I think that’s what made it so fun: what if Jane Austen accidentally was transported to modern day England? And now an actress staring in a movie adaptation of her novels has to help her get home. Honestly, this novel was completely enjoyable and if you’re a Jane Austen adaptations fan, I think you’ll enjoy it.

His Only Wife by Peace Adzo Medie

His Only Wife by Peace Adzo Medie

Overall, I completely enjoyed this novel and it was an incredibly good read. The only thing that threw me a little bit was that one of the reviews claimed it was hilarious. I think I might have missed the laugh out loud part? Maybe the humor just went over my head.

To Sir Phillip, With Love by Julia Quinn

To Sir Phillip, With Love by Julia Quinn

For Eloise Bridgerton Fans, you finally get her novel, five books in. I won’t give any spoilers, but it’s a pretty satisfying novel for everyone’s favorite sister.

Spoiler Alert by Olivia Dade

Spoiler Alert by Olivia Dade

I had mixed feelings about Spoiler Alert. Overall as a novel/romance novel, it was incredibly good. Where it caught me was that I could never get into fandom, fanfiction, comic-con, or GOT. Which meant I couldn’t relate to this book at all. Or have any sort of fascination with the actual topic of the book.

Group by Christie Tate

Group by Christie Tate

Phew this book. This was not brain candy at all. But what is was, was fascinating. I’ve heard of group therapy, but nothing like this. I don’t know if I necessarily agree with the therapists methods, but this was a fascinating read.

The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo

The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo

Why did I wait so long to read this?! Elizaeth Acevedo can do no wrong, and this book just proves this again. This book is actually written in verse and I decided to listen to it in audio, which made it even more amazing. I highly recommend listening to it in audio if you can.

A Rogue of One's Own by Evie Dunmore

A Rogue of One’s Own by Evie Dunmore

Another League of Extraordinary Women Novel! Who knew that you could learn so much about the women’s suffrage movement in England AND read a spicy romance novel at the same time? Evie Dunmore is completely brilliant.

Undercover Bromance by Lyssa Kay Adams

Undercover Bromance by Lyssa Kay Adams

The second book in the Bromance series, this series is just so much fun. There’s something about the idea of men reading romance novels and using them to learn about relationships just absolutely tickles me.

Crazy Stupid Bromance by Lyssa Kay Adams

Crazy Stupid Bromance by Lyssa Kay Adams

The third book in the Bromance series and I swear, these books just keep getting better! I love how not only are the guys they bring into these books excellent, but Kay Adams has also introduced amazing females as well. If you need a fun series, this is it.

Okay, that’s all for now with my January 2021 Reading List. Let me know what you’re reading right now or if there’s any books I should check out!
