Sunday Book Club: Fitness Junkie

Note: I received an advanced copy of Fitness Junkie in exchange for an honest review. As always, all opinions are my own. 

As I’m writing this review, I’ve been intimately involved with the boutique fitness community for three years. In fact, I just got an email from Pure Barre telling me it was my three year anniversary (yay!). I’ve not only taken classes in this industry but have been happily employed by Pure Barre for two years. It’s also coincidentally my work anniversary with Pure Barre. So, when two great authors co-author a fiction book about a woman trying out crazy fitness boutique classes, I’m in.

Enter Fitness Junkie.

Sunday Book Club: Fitness Junkie | Something Good, @danaerinw

Fitness Junkie is about Janey Sweet, a CEO in the fashion world. When Janey is one day told by her (snooty) business partner that she needs to lose weight if she wants to keep her position, she goes out to try different fitness trends in NYC.

One of my favorite facts about Fitness Junkie actually emerged from an interview with the authors. During that interview they mentioned how while they were writing Fitness Junkie, they kept trying to come up with crazy concepts for workout classes. They come up with a concept, nail it down…and then realize that the class actually existed. The same thing kept happening when they would make up a diet as well. Thinking about this as I read the book made it even funnier whenever they brought up a new trend.

Honestly, I loved Fitness Junkie. Similar to The Knock Off, Sykes and Piazza do an excellent job of taking a relevant topic and poking some fun at it while still finding the joy in it.

The characters manage to be relate-able in their own ways and you can’t help but cheer them on.

Fitness Junkie comes out on July 11 so pre-order it, add it to your wishlist, or request it from your library now! Trust me, you’ll want to have it on your late July/August vacation.
