Sunday Book Club: Always a Bridesmaid (For Hire)

I’ve been meaning to write this post for weeks (okay, we may be in the months territory at this point), but weddings are on my mind hardcore right now. With wedding season kicking off last weekend, I don’t know about you, but my feed is flooded with pictures and videos from all of the weddings. I also have three or four in the next few months.

But that’s not what I actually wanted to talk about. That’s just what reminded me to talk about Always a Bridesmaid (for Hire).

Sunday Book Club: Always a Bridesmaid (For Hire) by Jen Glantz | Something Good

I heard about Jen Glantz after she was on one of my favorite podcasts This is Why You’re Single. She talked about her latest book and a few stories about her job.

You see, Jen is a professional bridesmaid. Yup, that’s actually a thing. Because she made it a thing! After posting an ad on craig’s list offering to be a paid bridesmaid for people, she started being flooded with requests.

In Always a Bridesmaid (for Hire), Jen shares some of her hilarious (and heartwarming) experiences from some of the weddings she’s participated in so far. One of the best parts about it was that she also found a way of weaving her own dating life into it and how she saw that starting to be reflected during all of her experiments. Okay, actually my favorite part was where her mother got overly involved in her dating life and started offering to go on the dating sites to find guys for her. Kind of reminded me of a mother I know…

After hearing Jen talk on This is Why You’re Single and then finding out that she read the audiobook, deciding to listen to it on audio was a no brainer. Jen makes you feel like you’re chatting with a friend.

Always A Bridesmaid (For Hire) is definitely a book you want to pick up this summer. You’ll relate to her stories whether you’re forever the single friend or just over going to weddings. Either way, it’s going to be a great read.

Since I waited so long to share Always a Bridesmaid with you, I have a bonus mini review for you!

If the author of Crazy Rich Asians tells you that he LOVED a book. You read it. So the second I saw that he recommend The People We Hate at the Wedding, I went to go see when it was coming out and if I could request a galley. I got a copy of it almost immediately.

Oh my gosh guys, I devoured this book on my bus ride to NYC this weekend. I loved-hated this crazy dysfunctional family. I wanted to smack the characters most of the time, but then give them a hug in the next chapter. It also made me incredibly grateful for my functional family.

If you’re dreading going to all of the weddings this summer, I would suggest The People We Hate at the Wedding as a great reminder that with every wedding you have to go to, things could always be worse. And when you’re done reading it, go give your mom a hug (you’ll understand when you’re done).

Note: I was given an advanced copy of The People We Hate at the Wedding for review, but as always, all opinions are my own. The People We Hate at the Wedding will be available on June 6, 2017.
