Looking at this, I can either look at it two ways. Way number one: wow, I really messed up and went crazy over spending! Way number two: hmm, I purchased a number of items this month and went a little over budget. Does that mean that my budget isn’t working for me or does that mean I need to look at my shopping habits as a whole? Old Dana would have gone with number one, guilt-ed herself for a bit attempted to put herself on a shopping ban for June and then probably gone crazy shopping in July. Current Dana is going to go with way number 2.

I’ve been stricter with what I’ve purchased this year and it’s ultimately resulted in better items for my closet (and a much easier closet clean out). But it’s the big purchases (by this I mean one big order with lots of things) followed by big returns, rinse, wash, and repeat that really throw my budget off. I’d like to shop more but I need to figure out how to slow down the cycle.

The current thing that I’ve noticed and I’m trying to focus on is less  online shopping during the day. Most of the purchases that I do happen from my office computer (hides head in shame) during my lunch break. If I don’t make that purchase when I’m on my computer, I normally forget about it by the time I come home or I’m too lazy to take out my computer (a sign that I also really don’t need it). To combat that, I think I may to try to set up a Google site blocker for a few of my most frequented shopping sites during work hours.

I’d love to hear what you do to combat any bad shopping habits you may have!
