The Rent the Runway Skirt…in Charleston

Guys, it’s already the first day of September. I’m sure you already know that, but isn’t it crazy? August seriously flew by this year. Part of that is probably because I spent most of August travelling and not in DC. My two major August trips were Charleston for The Blog Societies Conference and then Juneau, Alaska to visit my sister.
The Alaska trip is probably going to take a bit for me to type up, but I thought I could share my Charleston trip (and this Rent the Runway skirt) with you today!

This is actually my second trip to Charleston. I first went last year for the TBSCon (though then it was the Southern Blog Societies Conference) and then stayed a little longer so I could explore the city. Since that trip was a little bit longer, definitely check out this post for a more extensive list of things to do and see in Charleston

For this trip, I knew I was going to be in and out a lot faster, so I wanted to make sure I got the chance to eat at different restaurants, stay at a new hotel, and revisit some of my favorite sites!
Here’s where I went, stayed, and ate in Charleston this year!

This hotel was only one block away from conference headquarters (Belmond Charleston Place), so it was a perfect option. The hotel was super cute and felt like a very home-y place to return to after a long day of conferences. Since it’s right in downtown Charleston, it’s right off of King Street and there are some great shopping options near by. Also, the Fulton Lane Inn is sister hotels with the King Charles Inn and they host complimentary happy hours every night for their guest! If you miss it, don’t worry, Fulton Lane has late night sherry in the lobby that you can grab on your way up to your room (I didn’t partake, but it sounds like fun). PS we actually took these pictures next to the entrance of the hotel!
After waking up from my post Flight nap on Thursday, I needed to eat something immediately. I was planning on meeting Holly at Whisk, a small coffee shop, that afternoon, so I decided to head over early and see if I could grab a sandwich. As soon as I saw their menu though, the thoughts of a sandwich immediately left my mind. Their menu was filled with the most delicious looking salads, smoothies, juices, and teas. I seriously took 10 minutes standing there trying to decide what to get (I ultimately chose to build my own salad, which was delicious). I ended up staying there to read for a few hours and made my way through their different tea and lemonade suggestions.

We came here to eat after the first night’s Welcome Party and it was kind of late and I was kind of starving. That might have colored my opinion a little bit because honestly, I don’t know if this would be one of my primary recommendations if you’re going to Charleston. The food was okay, but there are better options elsewhere.
If you’re coming to Charleston, I would definitely add this list to your list of places to go. I went here with Heather to meet up with one of her friends who lives down in Charleston and the food was so good. Heather and I decided to get a few plates of appetizers to share and they were all incredibly delicious (I’m drooling a little thinking about the tomato burrata and pomme frites). If you don’t have time for a full meal, at least visit for a drink so you can hang out on their rooftop deck (which I wanted to move into).

Of course I had to hunt down an ice cream shop while I was in another city! Jeni’s was the winner and it was definitely a good decision. They had such a fun selection of odd flavors and combinations and Heather and I ended up sampling what felt like 10 different flavors between the two of us. I landed on the birch and marshmallow, which tasted like a root beer float!
Okay, this isn’t a restaurant, but I had to share because the girls who work there are the sweetest. We actually met two of them in the TBS gifting suite where they working the braiding bar and helping with make up. I didn’t get to talk to them that much, but when Heather and I had some time to kill before dinner, we ended up popping into their shop to look around. The girls were so sweet and Rebecca (one of the girls) actually took the time to retouch my make up! Even more impressive was that Rebecca actually found an eyeliner for me that doesn’t run! If you get the chance to pop into their shop, definitely do!

I didn’t go to many places, but I guess I had a lot to say about the places I did go to! As I said before though, visit last year’s post for a longer list and let me know what your favorite Charleston places are!
