Since the Olympics have started and everyone is in full on watch mode, I thought that now would be the perfect time to share this novel with you, Fire in My Eyes by Brad Snyder and Tom Sileo

“The inspiring story of Brad Snyder’s journey from the Naval Academy to Afghanistan, from being blinded by an IED explosion to winning Paralympic gold” – Amazon

 Fire in My Eyes

Fire in My Eyes was a quick, but inspiring read. It wasn’t a suspenseful novel (you know the outcome of his Naval career and Paralympics competition), but it was fascinating to read. Brad Synder was brutally honest about dealing with with the death of friends, his life in the Navy, and how he coped with his loss of sight. It was also great to read a novel that discussed the journey of someone in the Paralympics, something that I feel like we don’t hear enough about, being overshadowed by the Olympics.

While Fire In My Eyes didn’t sugarcoat things, I did feel like some parts were glazed over and I wish he would have gone into more detail in some parts. It felt like I couldn’t tell if he was glazing over them because they weren’t as impactful or if he just didn’t want to talk about it. Either is fine, but it did make me feel like it was missing something.

I would still say pick up this book, even if just to learn more about the journey of a competitor in the Paralympics
