Putting this post together has been stressing me out a lot. As I was putting everything together, I realized how much I went over during this quarter and how uncomfortable that made me. I began to go through my list and figure out what from the Nordstrom Anniversary sale I wanted to return. I kept going back and forth on items, being unsure of what I actually wanted to send back.

I was ready to throw in the towel, until I came across this post on Unfancy. In it, Caroline talks about her thoughtful approach to shopping the sale and not going overboard. Suddenly, I felt much more relaxed and it was like my stress disappeared. Instead of stressing, I decided to just return all of the items I was iffy about (and it was a lot). I also took a few minutes to reflect on what items I was looking for last year during the winter and fall and realized that I wanted to concentrate more on finding those pieces and buying from the brands that I really love and know I’ll get winning pieces from.

I still went over budget even with the returns, but I’ve decided to apply that debt to my 3rd quarter budget (which goes September to November) and work a little harder to clean out my closet to sell some items and bring in a little more money.

I let myself go a little bit more this summer than I was expecting to, but I think I’ve learned my lesson. Or at least, I’m hoping I learned that lesson. I need to work a little harder at not getting distracted by pieces and focus more on the items on my wishlist. I’ve gotten a little better with avoiding the lure of “40% off sales”, but I still have a ways to go.

How did your shopping month go? Did you go over? Under? Fulfill anything on your wishlist?
