Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Last week I posted a link to a bra by aerie as part of their October Breast Cancer Awareness Month promotion and I wanted to take the time to highlight the product of an example of a company that got it right.

I actually started working for American Eagle Outfitters (the parent company of aerie) during the second year of their partnership with Bright Pink, a breast cancer awareness organization based out of Chicago.Bright Pink is the only national non-profit organization focusing on the risk reduction and early detection of breast and ovarian cancer in young women while providing support for high-risk individuals.”
The first project I worked on, was “Bras Across the Bridge” where we hung up bras across the Hot Metal Bridge outside of the AEO HQ to raise awareness and partnered with Bright Pink to donate a portion of aerie’s bra sales to them. I have to say, the campaign really hit home that year since around the day of the bras across the bridge event, my grandma passed away from cancer. My grandma, who I was very close with, had actually been a sales associate at Victoria’s Secret up until the time of her passing, so getting to hang bras across a bridge to raise awareness felt like an amazing way for me to personally remember my grandma.

Since the partnership began in 2010, it has only continued to grow.

This year, aerie put out a new bra, “Bridget” and have been donating 100% of the sales of that bra to Bright Pink since September 18, 2013!

Breast Cancer Awareness Month isn’t over yet, so go now and buy the bra!
And then take the time to read through Bright Pink’s site and learn about their partnership with aerie, how to reduce your risk of breast cancer, and what else you can do to support Bright Pink.
